Trump’s Cabinet Picks and His Plans to Keep Obama’s National Security Team

Trump administration has stated that they have plans to keep over fifty of Obama’s administration officials. Among those he plans to keep are Dabney Kern, the director of the White House military office, Robert Work, the Deputy Defense Secretary, Chuck Rosenburg, the Drug Enforcement Administration Chief and Adam Szubin, Acting Undersecretary of Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. Trump also plans to nominate Sonny Perdue, 86th governor of Georgia as the Agriculture Secretary and Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education.

Trump’s cabinet picks have been in question ever since he came into office. Many doubt the credentials of the nominees, one of which is Betsy DeVos. However, this begs the question as to why he plans to keep some of the Obama’s administration officials and what benefits there are to keeping them in office. Most of the officials are key to Obama’s national security team. This stands out because Trump has been to known to look unfavorably upon the way the former president handled terrorist groups. He even went so far as to claim that Obama was the “founder of ISIS”. Although there is no evidence to support this accusation.

What’s more is Trump’s intention to assign Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. Many are unsure as to her credentials and that her experience or lack thereof make her unfit for the position. It is not just democrats who oppose her, but also Trump’s supporters. During her confirmation hearing, it was quite clear that DeVos was uneducated about some federal education laws. This is a concern not just for democrats, but for republicans and Trump supporters who want someone capable in the seat of Secretary of Education.

On the more positive side of things, Trump nominated Sonny Perdue, the 86th governor of Georgia over Abel Maldonado. Perdue holds potential to do well in this position as he is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces and is a successful business owner is agribusiness and transportation. He also holds many accomplishments as Georgia’s governor. He created 20,000 jobs, posted the highest graduation rate, and SAT scores in state history since being in office. He has a doctorate in veterinary medicine, meaning he had the motivation for a higher education making him a candidate that even democrats cannot not fully oppose.

Trump’s cabinet picks have truly shocked the nation, but that does not mean all of them will be bad for the country. It would do some good to sit back and wait until everything is in place to actually start making judgment calls.
